In the same year of the separation of Smokie (1982) Chris released his first solo album “Rock away your teardrops” and his first solo single “Hey Baby” on the German market.
He also wrote and produced for other artists or projects, including the single “This time“for the English National football team.
1984 two more solo singles were published “My girl and me” (only for the English market) and “Love is a battlefield.” which was also simultaneously done by Pat Benatar.
1985 a charity performance for the victims of the fire disaster at the Bradford football stadium (in the home town of Smokie) got the original band together again and they decided at that point to tour again.
In 1986 Chris finally left the band. It was the year in which his major breakthrough as a solo artist happened.
With “Midnight Lady”, written by Dieter Bohlen, the title song from the crime thriller “der Tausch”, he celebrated a fantastic comeback all over Europe and led the German sales charts for many weeks. In the same year his second solo album “Some hearts are diamonds and the same called single came out.
1988 Chris did another duet, this time with Harry Belafonte’s daughter Shari Belafonte he sang “I want to be needed”.
1992 he repeated his cooperation with Suzi Quatro, for the single “I need your love”, written by Chris himself.
In 1995, Chris was voted for “Video Artist of the Year „by the American music channel CMT for his videos
“Jealous heart” and “The growing years” (published only in the UK)

Also in 1995 he produced the song “Those were the days” for Cynthia Lennon (the first wife of his great idol John Lennon) and its own title “Walking in the rain”. The single was released under his own label “Dice Music LTD” in the UK.
1996 Chris sang the title song “Fearless hearts” for the German TV series “Alarm code 112″.

With the album “Christmas together”, which Chris did together with the Riga Dome boys choir, he has demonstrated that he`s not only great in rock and pop music, but also can sing classic songs. Absolutely remarkable is also his interpretation of the Latin hymn “Panis Angelicus.” No wonder that this album became the “Album of the Year” in Latvia.
